Historically, gilt leather was often used together with wainscot, as a filling for panels in profiled framing. Nowadays, such compositions can be found in libraries and classically decorated studios, however the panels most of the time feature a fabric or a wallpaper instead. Our dining room is a proof that reverting to the olden customs may be both possible and well worth it. We used the “Golden garden” pattern coloured only with varnish, and antiquated.
